Your Blood Type

Eating according to your blood type is a way of choosing a diet specific to the digestive needs of your body. There are four different blood types: A, B, AB and O. Type AB is known as the "universal acceptor" and type O the "universal donor". Depending on your type, certain foods will promote digestion and nutrient absorption, while others will negatively affect the digestion process.Blood Type AType A's are encouraged to reduce their consumption of dairy foods; especially milk products. They should also reduce their intake of red meat products; as they tend to have a digestive system that is relatively sensitive and has a hard time digesting animal protein. Type A's will generally benefit more from a diet rich in fruits, vegetables and grains. Type A's should also avoid black tea, cayenne tea, corn silk tea, beer, distilled liquor, red clover tea, seltzer water and soda. Some foods to add to your diet include vegetables oils, vegetables, soy products and fruits. Foods to avoid include meat, cheese and dairy, seafood, cashews, pistachios, Brazil nuts, corn oil, sesame oil, different types of beans, high-protein bread, multi-grain bread, pumpernickel, wheat bran muffins, whole wheat bread, mayonnaise, ketchup, pickles, and Worcestershire sauce.Type A's are known to be hard-working, competitive, and focused on perfectionism; and they react best to exercises such as Yoga and Pilates. Recommended supplementation for type A's include Vitamin A, Vitamin E, Calcium and Iron.Blood Type BFor type B individual, it is advised to consume a variety of food and milk-based beverages to boost their immune system, but limiting their intake of meat. They need an extremely varied diet; and it should preferably be based on fruits and greens, eggs, dairy products, pasta, and meat. They should avoid poultry though. Type B's can't handle gluten in wheat products very well, so switching to a gluten-free diet is very beneficial. Unlike the other blood types, type B's can handle dairy products quite well and they will also benefit from green vegetables, lamb, liver, turkey, eggs, fish, licorice tea, soy, olive and flaxseed oil, oatmeal, millet, rice bran, spelt and puffed rice.Type B's are known to be very relaxed and patient; and they can adapt to new environments very easily. They flourish on exercises such as golf, hiking and cycling; while they should try to supplement with Magnesium and Liquorice.Blood Type ABBlood group AB is the result of a combination of types A and B; and has characteristics of both. Type AB is very rare and unique; and forms part of only around 5% of the world's population. This unique blood group has evolved during the modern era; and they are considered to have a very good immune system. Type AB individuals are very susceptible to health issues such as heart disease and cancer; and they don't produce a lot of hydrochloric acid in the stomach, which means they have a sensitive digestive system. However, animal protein is still important for type AB's. Seafood, dairy products, and some types of nuts are recommended for this type, while red meat, red beans, and corn should be avoided.Type AB individuals are known to be spiritual and emotional, and they have the ability to handle tough situations with ease. When it comes to physical activities, they enjoy yoga, golf and swimming. Supplements that are recommended for type AB's include Vitamin C, Zinc and Selenium.Blood Type OBlood type O is the oldest blood type in human history. Type O individuals will digest meat products better than any other type. Unlike people with type A blood, type O's produce a lot of hydrochloric acid in the stomach; however they have a hard time digesting dairy products and food containing gluten. When compared with other types, type O's have a stronger immune system, so they are encouraged to consume meat, fruit, fish, and vegetables. The best diet for a type O's is a higher ratio of proteins, and a lower intake of dairy and gluten. It would be best to exclude all dairy products, and adopt a gluten-free diet where possible. Foods that will benefit type O's include sea kelp, cod, bluefish, halibut, mackerel, pike, rainbow trout, red snapper, salmon, sardines, sole, striped bass, sturgeon, swordfish, beef, buffalo, lamb, liver, mutton, veal, venison, kale, spinach and broccoli.Type O's tend to have great leadership qualities and they are very focused on their work. They are also very responsible and organized; and can be somewhat arrogant at times. They flourish on intense physical exercise such as martial arts, weight training and jogging. Supplementation recommendations for type O's include Vitamin B, Vitamin K, and Calcium.

Sight-Reading Practice Tips

Sight-reading means playing through a piece for the first time. Every time you are given a new piece of music and looking it over, you are sight-reading. It can be very frustrating at first when you miss notes and struggle to play it.Did you know that you can practice sight-reading? Like scales or pieces, sight-reading gets easier the more you do it. Try to spend some time each day playing simple songs that you have never seen or heard before. Here are some tips on how to practice sight-reading:1. Start by looking through the music without playing.2. Play slowly. You are not trying to play the piece at the correct tempo. Find the hardest place and play the piece at the tempo you can play that section.3. Use a metronome to keep a steady beat. You can also count aloud.4. Look at the music and not at your hands, unless you have a big jump to play.5. The music for sight-reading should always be a bit easier than the pieces you are learning. There are three reasons why you should practice sight-reading:1. You will learn new pieces much more quickly.2. It is fun to be able to sit down and play new music easily.3. You can accompany other musicians and make money. If you ever want to play for church or with an ensemble, it helps to be a good sight-reader. Learning to recognize intervals, whether by sound, on paper, or on an instrument, is extremely helpful for many reasons.Among them are chord building, improvisation, sight singing, composition, understanding and remembering keys and their related accidentals, and figuring out music by ear playing. Sight-singing means singing a piece of music at first reading. If you are trying to play a melody that is in your head or on the radio, knowing your intervals eliminates most of the time spent searching for the right notes. When reading a piece of music from left to right, you are training your eyes to see past the bar lines and rapidly viewing notes through the measures,of music, counting rhythm out loud and moving towards the double bar line. The overlapping information also includes reviewing of what your right hand is playing, when your left hand is playing lower notes and reaching for 2 black keys, for example.I like to introduce flash cards for increasing sight-reading skills. Remember that the ultimate goal of the flash cards is speed. I believe flash cards should be quickly shown with increasing speed to accelerate the student's comprehension and response in identifying each card.Flash cards can be used for a particular advantage in strengthening sight-reading skills. Students should use them for daily drills at home. You should immediately recognize white keys at a fleeting glance.Along with sight-reading, it brings continual developing responses to fingering. Using fingering in new positions breaks the association of any finger number with any key.The basics of recognizing the notes in the Treble and Bass Clefs and seeing whether those notes are repeated on the same line or space are all components to sight-reading training. Notes stepping down to the next line or space need to be instantly recognized as well. You will have a successful time with improved sight-reading when you learn to recognize intervals by name and sound, and by their appearance on either staff. Have fun with these sight-reading tips.

Buying Your First Steel String Acoustic Guitar - Materials Guide

This article discusses some of the finer points in buying your first steel string acoustic guitar, such as the materials and hardware. Using this information will help you to make the right choice. An earlier article discusses the basics of buying your first steel string acoustic guitar. Just to recap: Buy the best quality guitar you can afford. Get one with a solid Cedar top. I recommend getting something of slightly lighter weight construction and suitable for light strings. Choose a size/style of guitar suited to your physique and seated posture. I also covered a few things you don't need: a cutaway, electronics or mother of pearl or abalone trimmings. Take an experienced guitarist with similar tastes to you along whenever you try out any guitars you're interested in. And finally, when you're ready to buy, I recommend you make sure you get a case and stand to protect your instrument from mishaps. Let's look at the materials and hardware used for steel string acoustic guitars. You should get one with a solid top - this means the soundboard of the guitar is made from solid timber rather than laminated. The soundboard contributes significantly to the characteristic sound of the instrument, and using solid timber is preferred for better quality sounds. Cedar is my first choice, it has a great tone suited to a variety of styles. Spruce is another popular wood with a somewhat brighter sound than Cedar. The drawback of Spruce for beginners is that it suits a more physical playing style and requires picking the strings harder which is something that comes with the confidence you'll develop over time, but may not suit you at the beginner stage. Guitars with soundboards made from other woods such as Koa or Mahogany are available but less commonplace - you'll just have to try them to see if you like their sound. The back and sides will ideally also be solid but it's OK to choose a laminate here because the difference won't affect the sound as much as it will in the case of the soundboard. It should save you some money if they're laminated. Popular woods are Mahogany or Rosewood and sometimes Cherry, Koa or Walnut, and any of these are fine so if you like one over the others because of the sound or look then go for it.For the neck either Mahogany or Maple are great choices. Mahogany is a popular neck wood that will contribute to a great sound especially with some mid range character. Be aware that it can be split or damaged more easily than some other woods. Maple is known for a brighter sound and is more durable although you may find it more difficult to find acoustic instruments that use it for the neck wood. The Fretboard (and bridge) will ideally be Rosewood - please don't use endangered species such as Ebony, Honduras Mahogany and Brazilian Rosewood (unlikely on a lower priced instrument anyway, but just so you know).Quality tuning machines (aka machine heads) will help you tune the guitar more easily and keep it in tune better. They should feel smooth and precise in use and use durable higher quality materials. Sealed construction is also a plus. Reputable brands include Gotoh, Grover, Schaller and Sperzel. These companies produce aftermarket tuning machines as well as providing original equipment to many guitar manufacturers and luthiers. The nut and bridge saddle will often be plastic on less expensive instruments. Graphtek make a synthetic material called Tusq which is well respected and used by many manufacturers and luthiers on their instruments. Bone is also a great alternative to the cheaper plastic materials used for these parts. You can get a better nut and bridge saddle fitted later if your instrument doesn't come with them stock. It will also help to choose a guitar suited to using lighter gauge strings. Gauges 0.010 to 0.050 should be the heaviest you use as a beginner, and there are some sets with even lighter low strings made by most string companies including D'Addario, Cleartone, DR, and Thomastik Infeld. Any guitar body style smaller than a dreadnought should be fine, and a dreadnought should be OK too especially if you're a bigger or more physical person. Lighter gauge strings will make it easier to play when the instrument is set up correctly for them, and you will find this a big help in learning to play guitar.
